WARFARE AND CONQUEST...
Egypt fought against: Nubia- Nubia was a place rich with resources of minerals, gems, and plenty of natural beauty. Egypt tried to control Nubia simply for the fact that they wanted the resources that only Nubia could provide. Hyksos- It is said that around 1650 BC, the Hyksos invaded Egypt and with little trouble, took control. The Hyksos had control over Egypt for around a century. Eventually, Egypt developed and trained a secure army, and fought back against the intruder, forcing the out of Egypt forever. As a result of contact with other societies, Ancient Egypt left the world with stories to tell future generations of gruesome battles, aggressive arguments and eternal scars. |
Egypt was a country that was geographically isolated from the rest of the ancient world which made trading, and social importances more difficult.
Egyptians were suspicious of 'foreigners' and considered any foreigners, enemies of Egypt. The contacts they had with other civilisations was seen through trade, and unfortunately, many times, war. Egypt had contacts with many countries, and places such as Mesopotamia, Rome, Greece and most famously Nubia. The people in Ancient Egypt had dealings with the above countries and places. These dealings were mainly for trade, but in the famous case of Nubia, it ended in war. Trade was important to the Egyptians. They traded wood, metals, minerals, jewellery and crafts. The consequences of trading with Nubia, was that it eventually ended in war. The consequences of warfare with Hyksos was that fighting back only resulted in the take-over of the Egyptian land. The consequences of conquering Nunia, was the backlash that followed from other civilisations, fighting for Nubia. |
